Likewise, we have received excellent guidance at each step from the SBL publication staff, especially Leigh Andersen, Bob Buller, and Kathie Klein. While certainly any deficiencies of the volume remain our own, we have benefitted much from Tom’s advice as well as from comments offered by the anonymous readers of the book proposal. We easily were convinced of the merits of his suggestion, and we happily reconfigured our project in a way consistent with the spirit of the Barr volume yet also sensitive to the distinctive challenges of studying Hebrews.

The timing of the conversation was fortuitous, as Tom had recently begun formulating plans to extend the series by commissioning volumes like Barr’s on other New Testament books. Barr, Reading the Book of Revelation: A Resource for Students (2003).

We first contacted Tom with the idea for a rather different kind of student-friendly introduction to the study of Hebrews, but he asked us to consider reenvisioning the project loosely along the lines of an existing RBS volume edited by David L. We are delighted that this volume is part of the Resources for Biblical Study series, published by the Society of Biblical Literature and Brill, and we gratefully acknowledge the guidance and encouragement of the RBS New Testament editor Tom Thatcher.
